Our Story

The story of ‘Beauty from Ashes’ started a little over 7 years ago. It’s very personal, hopefully inspiring but most importantly, it’s about the redeeming strength that is found through faith.

If you have bought or are thinking of buying from ‘Beauty from Ashes’, I want you to know that what you will enjoy, isn’t just an amazing product, but it’s product that was initially created while I was struggling to cope with my mom’s diagnoses of cancer.

Like many people who hear the word “cancer”, life changes instantly. We always expect it to be someone else or another person’s family – we’re never prepared when it’s our own loved one. When my mom told me she had cancer, my sole focus became how I could help my mom physically from hundreds of miles away. Was there any product to help ease the inevitable pain that chemo and radiation treatment would cause?

That’s when I discovered that unscented soap with premium ingredients such as olive oil and coconut oil, was known to help aid in calming irritated skin. A seed was planted! Learning the skill of soap making required a leap of faith, so I prayed for direction. Weeks before, I contemplated making charcoal soap and calling it “Beauty from Ashes”, so when the next line in a song playing on the radio was: “He makes beauty from these ashes”, I knew that I was going to make soap and that this very personal tragedy was going to help not just my mom, but many others fighting cancer.

Watching my mom lean on her faith while enduring the constant battles that stage four lung cancer caused, grew not only my faith but many others. I witnessed her undergo lung removal surgery, followed by infections and numerous, invasive procedures, before it metastasized to her brain. Always giving God credit for her strength, she continued to fight and never stopped declaring her love for Him.

My mom, Sharon Nolan, encouraged me to trust in the Lord, that He would make a way for ‘Beauty from Ashes’ products to help people. While ‘Our Story’ doesn’t have my heart’s desired happy ending, my mom did beat all the odds and lived for four years instead of the 16% survival rate of living 3-6 months, that she was originally given.

‘Beauty from Ashes’ began with heartbreak but is now a symbol of my mom’s strength, the power of faith and God’s redeeming love.
